The Emory men's cross country team traveled to Terra Haute, Indiana for the NCAA Championships, taking place on Saturday morning. Emory competed as an at-large competitor at the event and recorded a 24
th place finish after recording a score of 586. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won the event with a dominating 77 points, followed by Wartburg's 174 and the reigning champion Pomona-Pitzer's 182.
Emory was led by graduate student
Scott Masterson, who recorded a 65
th place finish in the 294-runner field. Masterson closed hard in his race at the 8k distance, passing 40 runners in the final 1.5k of the race. He finished with a time of 24:59.2. Senior
Marcus Cheema was up next, finishing in 145
th with a time of 25:27.7.
Four Eagles went on to finish within seven seconds of one another. Sophomore
Kirin Karver led this group, coming in 185
th with a time of 25:42.0. Next up, was senior
Tristan Olpin who clocked in at 25:44.7 in 194
th with sophomore
Olin Gilster on his heels in 195
th at 25:45.0. Graduate student
Spencer Watry finished in 206
th with a time of 25:49.6.
Rounding out the performances for Emory was freshman
Ryan Van De Berghe, coming in 236
th with a time of 26:02.0.
This is the fifth-straight season in which the men's team finished in the top-25 at the NCAA National Championships, all under the guidance of Head Coach Linh Nguyen.
