Emory cross country kicked off their season at the Kennesaw State Stan Sims Cross Country Opener in Acworth, Georgia Friday morning with the No. 14 women's team and men's team both taking third in their respective team standings.
In the men's four-mile run, the men's squad was led by freshman
Owen Larson who came in at 17
th overall with a time of 20:31.6. Fellow freshman
Logan Clark and sophomore
Carsen Valenta followed suit, with Valenta recording a career best finish at 20:54.34, shaving off five minutes from his freshman season best time of 25:52.7.
Behind Clark and Valenta came the freshmen group of
Jack Muhlhauser,
Michael Versaci,
Zach Glover and
Korben Lewis, all clocking in at around the 21-minute mark. The men put up 86 points overall.
On the women's side, freshman
Ayla Cooke was the leader for the Emory women in the 5k, taking 11
th overall with a time of 18:22.87.
Right behind her was fellow freshman
Ashley Clyman and junior
Elise Picard. To round out the top 26, freshman
Ella Werkman and junior
Payton Fleming coming in around the 19:32 and 19:35 respectively. The women put up 79 points for the team standings.
With the weekend off next week, the Eagles will be back on September 12 when they head to Charlotte, NC for the Queen City Invite.
