EMORY ATHLETIC FACTS

  • Emory University has a broad-based intercollegiate athletic program with over 400 student-athletes comprising the school's 19 varsity sports.  Women's golf is the latest addition to the roster of intercollegiate programs with that team beginning play in fall of 2019. 
  • Emory University competes at the NCAA Division III level.  The distinguishing factor in comparing Division III programs to Division I & II institutions is that Division III athletics feature athletes who receive no financial aid related to their athletic skills.
  • Emory is a member of the University Athletic Association (UAA). Other institutions comprising the eight-team league include Brandeis University, Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, New York University, University of Chicago, University of Rochester and Washington University in St. Louis.
  • Emory is just one of 10 schools in the nation--others include Stanford, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Washington University, the University of Southern California, UCLA, MIT, Virginia and Chicago -- to place in the top 10 in the NACDA Directors' Cup for best all-around athletics program and among the top 25 annual of best national universities (21st).
  • From 1987-88 through the end of the 2025-26 academic year, Emory has captured a total of 232 UAA team championships.  During 2025-26, the following teams won conference championships: men's golf, men's swimming and diving and men's basketball.
  • Emory has won a total of 35 Division III national championships.  The women's swimming and diving team leads the way with 12 national titles (2005, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) while the women's tennis team claims eight crowns (1996, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2014, 2016, 2021). The Eagles' men's tennis program has captured six national titles (2003, 2006, 2012, 2017, 2019, 2021), men's swimming and diving program boasts four national crowns (2017, 2022, 2023, 2024), women's golf claims three national titles (2022, 2025, 2026) and the volleyball team owns two national championships (2008, 2018).
  • Prior to 2026-27, Emory had finished among the top 10 Division III programs in the Director's Cup in 23 of the previous 24 years.  The Director's Cup honors institutions maintaining a broad-based athletic program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's.  The Eagles have scored over 1,000 points in three consecutive seasons and captured the department's first-ever Directors' Cup title in 2024-25.
  • Emory student-athletes have shined in their respective venues over the years with a total of 784 student-athletes earning a collective 1,526 All-America honors since 1983-84.  During the 2025-26 school year, a total of 59 Emory athletes earned All-America acclaim.
  • Emory student-athletes have distinguished themselves on the academic front. A total of 253 student-athletes have been selected as CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-Americans since 1983-84 including a department record 18 during the 2024-25 academic calendar. Since the fall of 2000, the Eagles have earned 203 CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-America honors, topping all non-football playing institutions.
  • A further testament to the academic excellence demonstrated by Emory student athletes is the fact that the university has been awarded 134 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships over the school's history, with the 117 awarded since 2000 second only to Stanford for the highest total by any NCAA member.
