Emory University women's tennis seniors Emily Kantrovitz and Izzy Antanavicius were recognized Wednesday afternoon as the recipients of a pair of regional awards as distributed by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Kantrovitz was dubbed the ITA Atlantic South Regional Senior Player of the Year and Antanavicius was named the regional's Most Improved Player. Kantrovitz is the 10th player in program history to earn Regional Senior Player of the Year honors while Antanavicius is the fourth to be tabbed as Most Improved.
For Kantrovitz, her senior season saw her entrenched in the No. 1 spot of the Eagles' singles lineup throughout the spring where she posted a 13-3 record in dual matches to lead Emory to a berth into the NCAA regional finals. She added a 4-4 record in tournament play, advancing to the finals of the ITA South Regional and an appearance in the ITA Cup. Kantrovitz has been ranked as the No. 1 singles player in the region for the entire spring as well as ranked No. 1 in doubles for the previous two rankings. In addition to her singles record, Kantrovitz has teamed with Iris Berman for a team-leading 19 wins, going 19-10, and were crowned regional champions this past fall and reached the semifinals at the ITA Cup.
Antanavicius' senior campaign has seen her turn in a team-leading 23 singles victories, posting an overall record of 23-6, and has gone 15-4 in dual matches as the Eagles' primary No. 3 player in singles. She knocked off Kantrovitz in the finals of the ITA South Regional and reached the quarterfinals at the ITA Cup. In doubles, she has an identical 23-6 record including a dominating mark of 15-3 with Yanire Marte in dual matches. Antanavicius is the current No. 2 singles player in the region, No. 11 nationally, and is ranked No. 3 in doubles in the region as well as No. 8 in the country.
The All-UAA performers are currently gearing up for the NCAA Individual Championships in Chattanooga, TN running May 22-25. Kantrovitz and Antanavicius will both compete in the singles draw and Kantrovitz will also be part of the doubles competition alongside Berman.
