Five members of the Emory University women's tennis team were announced as Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Americans earlier this week as the ITA unveiled its singles and doubles honorees via press release Wednesday afternoon.
Seniors Emily Kantrovitz and Izzy Antanavicius were named All-Americans in singles and were among the five Eagles to earn the recognition for doubles as they were joined by senior Iris Berman, junior Yanire Marte and freshman Eika Olson.
To be chosen as an ITA All-American in singles a player must meet any of the following criteria: top 8 seed in the NCAA singles tournament, win one round at the NCAA singles tournament, finish in the Top 20 in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, win ITA Fall Regional Tournament, or win a first-round match at the ITA National Small College Championships (ITA Cup). For doubles, honors are awarded to teams that are a top 4 seed in NCAA doubles tournament, win one round at the NCAA doubles tournament, finish in the Top 10 in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, win the ITA Fall Regional Tournament, or win a first-round match at the ITA National Small College Championships.
For Kantrovitz, this is her third consecutive honor in singles after earning the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA tournament and ending the year ranked No. 10 in Division III. She advanced to her third straight championship match of the ITA South Regional and posted an overall record of 17-8 including a 13-3 mark at the No. 1 position during dual matches. She was previously honored as an All-UAA First Team selection as well as the CSC Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Division III women's tennis.
Antanavicius claims her second straight All-America nod in singles following a championship run at the ITA South Regional as well as a trip to the Round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. She won a team-best 24 matches as she went 24-7 with a 15-4 record in dual matches as she split time between the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. She finished the year ranked No. 12 in the DIII singles rankings.
The Eagles saw three different doubles teams earn ITA status with the pairings of Kantrovitz/Berman, Antanavicius/Olson and Antanavicius/Marte being recognized. This is the fourth consecutive doubles honor for Kantrovitz, the second straight for both Antanavicius and Berman, and the first career All-America honor for both Marte and Olson.
Kantrovitz/Berman headlined the Eagles during the fall slate as the duo captured the ITA South Regional title and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Cup. They won a team-leading 19 matches and finished the year ranked No. 4 nationally.
Antanavicius/Olson began the year with a 6-3 record as they advanced to the title match of the ITA South Regional as well as the quarterfinals of the ITA Cup. They finished the season as the country's 33rd-ranked doubles tandem.
Antanavicius added All-America honors alongside Marte as the duo advanced to the national quarterfinals after starting the draw as an alternate team. In the spring, they combined for a 16-4 record and had a 14-3 mark at the No. 2 position.
