The Emory University women's tennis doubles team of senior Izzy Antanavicius and junior Yanire Marte saw their national tournament run in the NCAA Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Eagles were pitted against University Athletic Association foes Caitlin Bui and Eleanor Archer from WashU with a spot in Sunday's semifinals on the line. Emory's duo started fast by claiming a pair of breaks to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set but the Bears answered with six straight points to win the first set, 6-3. WashU continued with the momentum into the second set by taking it 6-1 to clinch the match.
The defeat ends the campaign for Antanavicius and Marte who posted an overall record of 16-4 together this spring and captured All-America honors with their Round of 16 win on Friday. It also marks the end of Antanavicius' outstanding career as she closes out her Emory run tied for 13th all-time on the doubles career wins list with a record of 79-34.
