The Emory University women's tennis doubles team of
Yanire Marte and
Devin Gilroy finished as the Division III national runners-up as the ITA Cup came to an end Sunday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
A day after knocking out the draw's No. 1 overall seed, Marte and Gilroy opposed another University Athletic Association foe in the tandem of Rosalyn Chan and Clara Zou from the University of Chicago in the Division III national championship. The first set needed a tiebreaker to decide a winner with the Maroons prevailing 7-6 (7). In the second set, UChicago continued the momentum as they pulled away for the 6-1 set win to clinch the title.
The Eagles will conclude the fall slate next weekend with a home scrimmage against SCAD-Atlanta on Friday at 3:00 PM before the team hosts their annual alumni tournament Saturday morning where Emory will honor its national championship teams from 1996, 2006 and 2016.
