The No. 11 ranked Emory University women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday with a 7-0 win over visiting Christopher Newport University at the WoodPEC in Atlanta. Prior to the start of the match, the Eagles honored Izzy Antanavicius, Iris Berman and Emily Kantrovitz for their outstanding contributions to the program during their careers.
As play got underway, the Eagles started in strong fashion with a clean sweep across the three doubles matches. Antanavicius and junior Yanire Marte opened the scoring with a 6-2 result on court two followed by a 6-3 win from Berman and Kantrovitz on the top court. Emory's No. 3 tandem of sophomore Daniela Livson and freshman Holyn Karp concluded the sweep with their 6-4 finish.
Moving into singles, the Eagles continued to play with straight set decisions at all six spots as Emory concluded the shutout win.
Marte dominated at the No. 4 position with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing while Antanavicius and Karp dropped two games combined in their matches on courts three and five with Antanavicius going 6-1, 6-1 on three and Karp posting the 6-2, 6-0 result on five.
Freshman Audrey Pogue added a 6-2, 6-2 line at the No. 6 position whereas Kantrovitz and Berman rounded out the day's winners with victories at the top spots of the lineup. Berman clinched a 6-3, 6-2 score on court two and Kantrovitz notched a 6-3, 7-5 decision on the No. 1 line.
Emory will face NAIA foe Georgia Gwinnett in a scrimmage this upcoming Friday afternoon in Lawrenceville before turning attention to the UAA Championships the following weekend in Florida.
