Emory Athletics Weekly Preview: 1/12 - 1/19

Track and Field:
The men's and women's track and field teams will return to Birmingham, AL for the Samford Invitational Thursday and Friday as they continue the indoor season.

Both teams began the indoor season at the Birmingham Icebreaker, putting up a combined 14 top-10 placements on the day. The meet was highlighted by three Eagles placing in the top 5 in the women's 800m as senior Hannah Riley took first and Aaliyah Jalloh and Payton Sullivan took third and fourth respectively. Sophomore Ari Klasky led the Eagles in the field events, throwing a 15.09 mark to break the school shot put record and place fourth. The Eagles also found success in freshman Michael Miller as he brought home a top ten finish in the men's 800m for his first meet in the blue and gold.

Men's Basketball:
The #3 ranked Emory men's basketball team is back on the road this week as they take on Brandeis and RV NYU.

The Eagles had a winning weekend as they defeated Rochester 95-90 to kick off conference play, extending their win streak to 10 games and improving to 11-1 on the season. The game saw a dominant performance from junior Ethan Fauss as he put up career highs 29 points and 16 rebounds. The Eagles also saw double-doubles from Ben Pearce and Mario Awasum as they put up a combined 40 points, 20 rebounds and 11 assists against the Yellowjackets.

Coverage: Women's Basketball:
The #9 ranked Emory women's basketball team are headed north again this weekend as they take on Brandeis and #1 NYU. The Eagles are looking to keep the Judges out of the win column in conference play and end NYU's historic 74-game win streak.

The Eagles began conference play in winning fashion last weekend as they took down Rochester 65-59 on the road. The win was highlighted by double-digit performances by Tatum Olson and Chloe Kreusser, who put up a combined 24 points against the Yellowjackets. Kreusser also had a team-high nine rebounds in the game as the Eagles held Rochester to their second-largest loss margin of the season.
