The Emory University track and field programs returned to the track on Friday afternoon competing at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker in Birmingham, Alabama.
The men started with the 60m prelims with junior
Kofi Igyan finishing 30
th with a time of 7.11 before later competing in the long jump finishing 15
th with a mark of 6.62m. Four Eagles took home top-20 finishes in the 60m hurdles including
Ethan Lu,
Sebastian Kou,
Ben Olvey and
Noah Chang. Starting the mid-distance events were freshmen
Blake Jackson and
Rohan Dharmarajan who finished 18
th (36.18) and 29
th (37.76) respectively in the 300m.
In the 800m, freshman
Michael Miller brought home a ninth place finish with a time of 2:01.73 followed by a 12
th place finish from classmate
Cooper Harwood (2:02.57). Finishing the running events were
Ryan McGonigle and
Brendan Conniff who finished 5
th and 8
th respectively in the 1000m.
The running events ended with the 4x400m relay with Mersky, Chang, Jackson an McGonigle taking sixth with a time of 3:23.43. The group of Kou, Olvey, Lu and Hardwood finished right behind with a time of 3:30.61.
Sophomore
Ari Klasky returned on a high note with a 4
th place finish in the shot put throwing a 15.09m mark to break the school record, before later finishing 12
th in the weight throw. In field events, Brandstadter earned a top-10 finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.14m followed by 3
rd and 6
th place finishes respectively from teammates
Steven Ditelberg and
Robert Bright in the pole vault. Sophomore
Ryan Coleman competed in the triple jump taking 14
th with a mark of 13.19m.
Two new Eagles took home top-40 finishes in the women's 60m prelims with
Laura Jablanover finishing 33
rd (7.98) and
Kwilai Karto finishing 37
th (8.04). Classmate
Kelsey Coley followed with a 10
th place finish in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 9.07. Entering the mid-distance group was senior
Sydney Holden who took 27
th in the 300m while teammates
Sophia Deeney and
Izzie Thompson ran a 1:03.31 and a 1:04.95 respectively in the 400m.
In the distance events, senior
Hannah Riley took home a first place finish in the 800m followed by a third and fourth place finish from teammates
Aaliyah Jalloh and
Payton Sullivan. Teammates
Sarah Nixon and
Ryleigh O'Donnell finished the distance events with ninth and 10
th place finishes in the 1000m respectively. Later into the evening, the relay group of Riley, Jabloanover, Karto and Jalloh finished sixth in the 4x400m with a time of 3:75.15 followed by a seventh place finish from Holden, Coley, Taylor and Nixon.
Opening the field events for the women were teammates
Anna Jennings (23
rd, 5.18m) and
Mimi Rhee (27
th, 5.09m) in the long jump followed by a top-10 finish from sophomore
Erin Makhanian in the pole vault with a jump of 3.55m. Sophomore
Amaya Grant took home the top finish for Emory in the triple jump with a distance of 10.90m. Finishing the jumps were freshmen
Gabrielle An and
Megan Taylor who finished in a tie for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m.
Sophomore
Jeanette Hydukovich and freshman
Jackie Chapman both finished in the top-20 in the shot put to open the throwing events. Freshman
Caroline Henry took home the top finish for the Eagles in the weight throw with a distance of 13.24m.
The Eagles will take a break for the semester before returning to the track for the Samford Invite in Birmingham, Alabama.
