Emory's Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed in Birmingham, AL on Friday in the Samford Invitational, with 39 top 20 placements across all the events on the day.
Starting the day in women's weight throw, freshman
Caroline Henry threw her PR at 13.36m, putting her in 13
th overall. Sophomore
Abigail Roberts also found herself in the top 20 with a mark of 12.56m.
In the women's 60m, freshman
Laura Jablonover led the team with a time of 8.14 to put her in 46
th overall. Sophomore
Amaya Grant and freshman
Kelsey Coley also found themselves in the top 50, running times of 8.17 and 8.21 respectively.
Following that was the women's 60mH, where Coley led the team with a time of 9.10 to land in 17
th overall. Sophomore
Melayna Pettigrew followed, running a 9.83 to put her in 34
th place. Rounding out Emory's competitors, freshman
Lucy Benjamin ran an 11.12 to find herself in 41
st overall.
In the women's 1 mile,
Payton Fleming led the team with a 5:10.39, marking the new 31
st best time in Division III and earning the junior a spot in the top 15. Freshman
Ashley Clyman followed close behind, coming in 18
th place with a time of 5:13.46, marking the new 31
st best time in Division III. Coming in next was sophomore
Arden Gray who came in 31
st place with her time of 5:32.17. Rounding things out for the Eagles was
Sophia Powell and
Karsten Bobb, who came in .2 seconds apart at the 5:37 mark. Bobb also earned her PR as Powell and Bobb placed in 34
th and 35
th respectively.
In the women's 200m, Jablanover led the team once again with a time of 25.69 to find herself in the top 25, running her PR and earning the 29
th fastest time in Division III. Coley and
Aaliyah Jalloh also ran their PRs, coming in just past the 27
th minute mark to run the 84
th and 99
th fastest times in Division III.
In the women's 400m,
Amaya Grant led the team with her time of 1:00.90, marking the 78
th best time in Division III and putting her in 21
st overall. Close behind was senior
Payton Sullivan, who came in 1.1 seconds later to land in 27
th place.
Izzie Thompson rounded things out for the Eagles, coming in 33
rd with a time of 1:04.91.
In the women's 800m, the freshmen duo of
Zoe Norman and
Sarah Nixon placed in the top 15, with Norman running a 2:22.19 to earn her PR and the 33
rd best time in Division III while Nixon ran a 2:25.42 to earn the 49
th best time in Division III.
Ryleigh O'Donnell and
Maddie Ross also placed in the top 20 with O'Donnell running a 2:28.52 and Ross running a 2:29.84 to earn the 79
th and 97
th best times in Division III respectfully.
In the women's 3000m, junior
Elise Picard held it down for the Eagles, coming in 21
st with a time of 10:38.82 to run the 53
rd best time in Division III.
To begin the field events in women's pole vault,
Erin Makhanian tied for 7
th overall with a mark of 3.37m.
Following pole vault was women's long jump, sophomore
Anna Jennings placed 10
th overall with a mark of 5.22m, marking the new 68
th best mark in Division III. Junior
Elsa Bildtsen followed close behind with a mark of 5.00m to land in 14
th place. Fellow freshman
Jada Clarke also landed in the top 25 with a mark of 4.79m.
In the women's triple jump, freshman
Mimi Rhee led the team, coming in 15
th place with a mark of 10.67m.
Maeve Hurly came directly after, taking 16
th with a mark of 10.59m.
Rithika Prabhuram immediately followed with a 10.58m mark to land in 17
th overall.
Closing out the women's field events with the shot put,
Jeanette Hydukovich held it down for the Eagles, placing 8
th overall with her 12.22m mark.
Moving over to the men's competition with the men's 1 mile, sophomore
Ryan Van de Berghe came in 5
th overall, running his new PR and earning the new 13
th best time in Division III at 4:17.30.
Jack Mulhauser came in next, coming in 11
th place with a time of 4:26.66 and running the new 63
rd best time in Division III. Rounding things out for Emory was the trio of
Michael Versaci,
Carsen Valenta and
Krish Bhaskaran who came in 17
th, 18
th and 19
th place respectively and crossing the finish just after the 4:33 mark.
In the men's 400m, freshman
Eli Rosen placed in the top 30 with his time of 53.51.
In the men's 800m, sophomore
Ryan McGonigle ran a 1:52.95, running the 47
th fastest time in the NCAA, the 5
th fastest time in Division III and placing 6
th overall. Senior
Brendan Conniff came in next, coming in 8
th overall and running the 22
nd fastest time in Division III. Finishing things up for the Eagles was
Andrew Burchett, placing in the top 10 and running the 47
th fastest time in Division III.
In the men's 60m, senior
Henry Brandstadter ran a 6.93, running the new 28
th best time in Division III and putting him in 14
th overall. Freshman
Blake Jackson followed, coming in 35
th overall with a time of 7.15. Rounding out the top 40, the sophomore duo of
Ryan Coleman and
Jason Bright ran a 7.18 and 7.21 respectively, with both athletes running their PR and placing 39
th and 40
th overall.
In the men's 200m, Brandstadter led the team once again, coming in 16
th place with a time of 22:09, running the new 27
th fastest time in Division III. Behind him was
Lucas Mersky who came in 19
th, running his PR and earning the 33
rd best time in Division III.
In the men's 60mH, sophomore
Ben Olvey led the team and ran his PR with a time of 8.58 to land in 14
th overall. Senior
Jason Huang followed, landing in 24
th place with a time of 9.28.
To begin field events in men's shot put, sophomore phenom
Ari Klasky earned his PR and 5
th overall with his mark of 16.47m, breaking the school record for the second time this season.
Rohan Vasandani came in 22
nd with his mark of 11.80m.
Klasky delivered once again in the men's weight throw, coming in 14
th with a mark of 15.24m.
Tyler Edwards also placed in the top 25 with his mark of 12.22m.
In the men's long jump, junior
Kofi Igyan led the team with a mark of 6.37m to land in 13
th place. The sophomore/freshman duo of
Sam Gouvalaris and
Jacob Kim came in 18
th and 19
th overall with marks of 6.00m and 5.75m respectively. Â Â
The men's team showed out in the triple jump with three Eagles placing in the top ten.
Jason Bright led the squad, jumping his PR and earning 6
th place with a mark of 13.77m, also achieving the 35
th best marks in Division III. The freshmen duo of
Marco Souchet and
Branson Adams came in next, coming in 8
th and 9
th with Souchet's mark of 13.39m and Adams mark of 13.20m. Â Â Â
Following that was men's pole vault where
Steven Ditelberg and
Robert Bright each hit the 4.41 mark to come in 16
th and 18
th overall.
In the women's 4x400m relay, the team placed 10
th with a time of 4:10.43. The men's team also placed in the top 10, coming in 8
th overall with a time of 3:22.40, earning the 10
th fastest time in Division III. Â Â
The Eagles will be back on the track the weekend of February 1 for the Tiger Open in Mill Spring, NC.
