Track and Field Competes at Samford Invite; Klasky Sets Shot Put Record

The meet was highlighted by multiple top-20 finishes from the Eagles.

Emory's Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed in Birmingham, AL on Friday in the Samford Invitational, with 39 top 20 placements across all the events on the day.

Starting the day in women's weight throw, freshman Caroline Henry threw her PR at 13.36m, putting her in 13th overall. Sophomore Abigail Roberts also found herself in the top 20 with a mark of 12.56m.

In the women's 60m, freshman Laura Jablonover led the team with a time of 8.14 to put her in 46th overall. Sophomore Amaya Grant and freshman Kelsey Coley also found themselves in the top 50, running times of 8.17 and 8.21 respectively.

Following that was the women's 60mH, where Coley led the team with a time of 9.10 to land in 17th overall. Sophomore Melayna Pettigrew followed, running a 9.83 to put her in 34th place. Rounding out Emory's competitors, freshman Lucy Benjamin ran an 11.12 to find herself in 41st overall.

In the women's 1 mile, Payton Fleming led the team with a 5:10.39, marking the new 31st best time in Division III and earning the junior a spot in the top 15. Freshman Ashley Clyman followed close behind, coming in 18th place with a time of 5:13.46, marking the new 31st best time in Division III. Coming in next was sophomore Arden Gray who came in 31st place with her time of 5:32.17. Rounding things out for the Eagles was Sophia Powell and Karsten Bobb, who came in .2 seconds apart at the 5:37 mark. Bobb also earned her PR as Powell and Bobb placed in 34th and 35th respectively.

In the women's 200m, Jablanover led the team once again with a time of 25.69 to find herself in the top 25, running her PR and earning the 29th fastest time in Division III. Coley and Aaliyah Jalloh also ran their PRs, coming in just past the 27th minute mark to run the 84th and 99th fastest times in Division III.

In the women's 400m, Amaya Grant led the team with her time of 1:00.90, marking the 78th best time in Division III and putting her in 21st overall. Close behind was senior Payton Sullivan, who came in 1.1 seconds later to land in 27th place. Izzie Thompson rounded things out for the Eagles, coming in 33rd with a time of 1:04.91.

In the women's 800m, the freshmen duo of Zoe Norman and Sarah Nixon placed in the top 15, with Norman running a 2:22.19 to earn her PR and the 33rd best time in Division III while Nixon ran a 2:25.42 to earn the 49th best time in Division III. Ryleigh O'Donnell and Maddie Ross also placed in the top 20 with O'Donnell running a 2:28.52 and Ross running a 2:29.84 to earn the 79th and 97th best times in Division III respectfully.

In the women's 3000m, junior Elise Picard held it down for the Eagles, coming in 21st with a time of 10:38.82 to run the 53rd best time in Division III.

To begin the field events in women's pole vault, Erin Makhanian tied for 7th overall with a mark of 3.37m.

Following pole vault was women's long jump, sophomore Anna Jennings placed 10th overall with a mark of 5.22m, marking the new 68th best mark in Division III. Junior Elsa Bildtsen followed close behind with a mark of 5.00m to land in 14th place. Fellow freshman Jada Clarke also landed in the top 25 with a mark of 4.79m.

In the women's triple jump, freshman Mimi Rhee led the team, coming in 15th place with a mark of 10.67m. Maeve Hurly came directly after, taking 16th with a mark of 10.59m. Rithika Prabhuram immediately followed with a 10.58m mark to land in 17th overall.

Closing out the women's field events with the shot put, Jeanette Hydukovich held it down for the Eagles, placing 8th overall with her 12.22m mark.

Moving over to the men's competition with the men's 1 mile, sophomore Ryan Van de Berghe came in 5th overall, running his new PR and earning the new 13th best time in Division III at 4:17.30. Jack Mulhauser came in next, coming in 11th place with a time of 4:26.66 and running the new 63rd best time in Division III. Rounding things out for Emory was the trio of Michael Versaci, Carsen Valenta and Krish Bhaskaran who came in 17th, 18th and 19th place respectively and crossing the finish just after the 4:33 mark.

In the men's 400m, freshman Eli Rosen placed in the top 30 with his time of 53.51.

In the men's 800m, sophomore Ryan McGonigle ran a 1:52.95, running the 47th fastest time in the NCAA, the 5th fastest time in Division III and placing 6th overall. Senior Brendan Conniff came in next, coming in 8th overall and running the 22nd fastest time in Division III. Finishing things up for the Eagles was Andrew Burchett, placing in the top 10 and running the 47th fastest time in Division III.

In the men's 60m, senior Henry Brandstadter ran a 6.93, running the new 28th best time in Division III and putting him in 14th overall. Freshman Blake Jackson followed, coming in 35th overall with a time of 7.15. Rounding out the top 40, the sophomore duo of Ryan Coleman and Jason Bright ran a 7.18 and 7.21 respectively, with both athletes running their PR and placing 39th and 40th overall.
In the men's 200m, Brandstadter led the team once again, coming in 16th place with a time of 22:09, running the new 27th fastest time in Division III. Behind him was Lucas Mersky who came in 19th, running his PR and earning the 33rd best time in Division III.

In the men's 60mH, sophomore Ben Olvey led the team and ran his PR with a time of 8.58 to land in 14th overall. Senior Jason Huang followed, landing in 24th place with a time of 9.28.

To begin field events in men's shot put, sophomore phenom Ari Klasky earned his PR and 5th overall with his mark of 16.47m, breaking the school record for the second time this season. Rohan Vasandani came in 22nd with his mark of 11.80m.

Klasky delivered once again in the men's weight throw, coming in 14th with a mark of 15.24m. Tyler Edwards also placed in the top 25 with his mark of 12.22m.

In the men's long jump, junior Kofi Igyan led the team with a mark of 6.37m to land in 13th place. The sophomore/freshman duo of Sam Gouvalaris and Jacob Kim came in 18th and 19th overall with marks of 6.00m and 5.75m respectively.   

The men's team showed out in the triple jump with three Eagles placing in the top ten. Jason Bright led the squad, jumping his PR and earning 6th place with a mark of 13.77m, also achieving the 35th best marks in Division III. The freshmen duo of Marco Souchet and Branson Adams came in next, coming in 8th and 9th with Souchet's mark of 13.39m and Adams mark of 13.20m.    

Following that was men's pole vault where Steven Ditelberg and Robert Bright each hit the 4.41 mark to come in 16th and 18th overall.

In the women's 4x400m relay, the team placed 10th with a time of 4:10.43. The men's team also placed in the top 10, coming in 8th overall with a time of 3:22.40, earning the 10th fastest time in Division III.   

The Eagles will be back on the track the weekend of February 1 for the Tiger Open in Mill Spring, NC.
