The Emory University women's tennis team continued its strong showing at the ITA South Regional on Saturday, setting up a Championship Sunday featuring Emory-based match ups for the final matches of the tournament.
Following play today, the Eagles boast the remaining doubles teams as top-seeded Emily Kantrovitz and Iris Berman advanced to the championship match to oppose the second-seeded duo of Izzy Antanavicius and Erika Olson.
Kantrovitz and Berman rolled in their two matches on the day, earning an 8-0 decision against Sewanee's Lee/High tandem before defeating teammates Yanire Marte and Holyn Karp, 8-2, in the semifinals. In the other side of the draw, Antanavicius/Olson topped Sewanee's Davis/Foster, 8-2, prior to posting an 8-1 result against Rhodes' Baba/Laasko.
In singles, the semifinals on Sunday will feature four Eagles as Kantrovitz, Olson, Antanavicius and Rachel Hernandez are still left standing following Saturday's competition.
Kantrovitz, in search of her third-straight regional singles crown, paved her way to the final four with straight set wins over opponents from Rhodes (6-1, 6-2) and Sewanee (6-3, 7-6 (5) and will meet Olson in the semifinals after she knocked out Sewanee's Foster, 6-4, 6-0 prior to defeating Marte, 6-0, 6-4 in the quarters.
On the other side of the bracket, Antanavicius bested a pair of teammates as she won 7-5, 6-4 against Audrey Pogue before ousting Karp in three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. Hernandez earned a hard fought three-set win over Asbury's Nova Maldonado, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-4 before taking out Berman, the draw's second overall seed, in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
The doubles championship match is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Sunday with the finals of singles to follow.
