The Emory University men's soccer program had another successful season seeing back-to-back UAA Championship titles and heading back to the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in seven seasons.
The Eagles won their second straight University Athletic Association championship with a 4-2 defeat over Chicago earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season.
Opening again with the Sonny Carter Invitational, the Eagles struggled through the tournament taking a loss and a tie in the opening two games. Emory later picked up their first win of the season against the University of Lynchburg at the John P. Salamone Invitational before traveling to Colorado for the Colorado College Tournament where they went 1-1. Entering conference play with a 3-5-1 record, Emory opened with a 5-2 win against the WashU Bears in Atlanta followed by a 2-0 defeat of Case Western Reserve.
Emory took their first conference loss against Carnegie Mellon before winning back-to-back games against Brandeis and NYU with the conference title on the line. In the matchup for the conference title against Chicago, the Eagles dominated the Maroons 4-2 to clinch the title and a berth to the tournament before ending the season with a 1-1 tie with Rochester.
In the opening round of the tournament, Emory fell in a 3-0 heart breaker to end the season.
The Eagles had six student-athletes named to the All-UAA Team while graduate student
Ryan Winkler was named the Offensive Player of the Year and head coach Cory Greiner and assistant coaches
Clayton Schmitt, Felipe Quintero, Jose Casique and Tyler Sherman earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
In his first season with the Eagles, Winkler was a figurehead in the offense as he led the conference with 10 goals – the first Eagles since 2017 to reach double-digit goals – and was second with 22 points. During conference play, he notched five goals and one assist for 11 points. He was a three-time selection of the Offensive Athlete of the Week, including twice in conference play after notching a brace in the win over WashU and scoring in the closing minutes as Emory tied Rochester in the regular season finale.
Junior
Josh Grand made his third appearance on the All-UAA and first on the First Team after earning spots on the Second Team in each of his first two seasons. As a junior, Grand excelled as a facilitator in the midfield with a UAA-leading 10 assists – the most by an Eagle in a single-season since 2008 – and added three goals for 16 points. He registered one assist in five of the seven conference matches and scored a goal in the UAA opener over WashU for a season-high three points. He collected his first Athlete of the Week honor after assisting on both goals in 1-0 road wins at Brandeis and NYU. Grand had at least one point in 11 of his 17 matches.
Sophomore
Lorenzo Avalos draws his first career All-UAA honor where he was second on the team in goals scored and third in points. Inside UAA action, Avalos had four assists and added one goal for six points as they all came within wins over WashU, Case Western Reserve and Chicago. Avalos picked up his first Athlete of the Week honor following a career-high three points in Emory's title-clinching win over Chicago.
