The No. 5 ranked Emory University men's soccer team placed five team members on the United Soccer Coaches Association All-Region teams as the selections were announced Tuesday morning by the organization.
Highlighting the honorees were graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu and junior Logan Steren with First Team recognition. Senior Josh Grand and graduate student Danny Moya secured spots on the All-Region VI Second Team and junior Lorenzo Avalos earned a berth on the Fourth Team.
The Eagles have led the team to its greatest heights in school history this season, tying a team record with 16 wins, with an overall record of 16-1-4, and advancing to the Final Four for the first time ever. Emory, in search of its first national championship in soccer, heads to Salem, Virginia this week and will oppose Trinity University (TX) in the national semifinals at 6:30 PM on Friday, December 5th at Kerr Stadium at Roanoke College.
Cubeddu, an All-University Athletic Association First Team selection earlier this year, garners his first All-Region honor as a member of the Eagles and his third of his career having previously been an All-Region Second and Third Team selection with Amherst College in 2021 and 2023. With the Eagles, Cubeddu transformed the Emory offense with his playmaking ability, leading to team highs in goals (12) and points (30) while ranking sixth nationally with 5.15 shots per game and established a program record with 103 shot attempts. He has been a two-time UAA Offensive Player of the Week and was recognized by the United Soccer Coaches in September by being named the Division III National Player of the Month.
Steren collects his first national or conference honor of his career with his stellar work on the backline. He has anchored a defensive unit that ranks 15th in Division III with a 0.613 goals-against average and has bolstered the Eagles to eighth nationally with a +45 goal differential. The Eagles have recorded 10 clean sheets on the season, the most in a single season since 2010, and are outscoring opponents 58-13. Steren has also recorded a career best season at the offensive end, notching six goals and two assists for 14 points and is tied for second on the team with three game-winning goals, recording game-winners against No. 4 Washington & Lee, Case Western Reserve and in the NCAA Sweet 16 against Rowan.
Grand was on his way to a record-breaking season but a knee injury cut his season short after 11 games played. Still, Grand posted staggering numbers in non-conference play with six goals and a team-leading 10 assists to land himself All-Region honors for the first time. He finished the year leading all UAA players in total assists and was third in total points (22), and established a program record with four assists in the team's win over Wisconsin-Lutheran on September 7.
After landing All-UAA Honorable Mention status earlier this season, Moya joins Grand on the All-Region VI Second Team. In his first season with the Eagles, Moya played nearly every minute in the midfield before missing the last three postseason games due to injury. In 18 appearances, Moya has one assist coming in a win over NYU, and has totaled 14 shots including three on frame while being one of six players to crack 1,300 minutes played.
The reigning UAA Offensive Player of the Year draws his first career All-Region honor with his Fourth Team selection. Despite being limited to 13 games, Avalos currently stands second on the team with eight goals and is fourth on the roster with 17 points. Five of his eight tallies came during UAA competition as he helped the Eagles to a 3-1-3 mark in conference play and added a goal in Emory's opening round win over Maryville on November 15.
The United Soccer Coaches Association will announce its 2025 All-America Teams on Thursday, December 4th, ahead of the national semifinals.
