The No. 2 ranked Emory University women's golf program competed two teams in the opening round of the Deb Jackson Invitational on Sunday afternoon in the team's home tournament. The tournament is being played at the 71 par, 5,691 yard West Pines Golf Course in Douglasville, Georgia.
The A team for the Eagles currently sit in a tie for second following the opening round with a team score of 290 (+6). The B team hold down sixth place with a team score of 308 (+24).
For the A team, senior
Sharon Mun started things strong finishing the day in third place with a score of 71 (E). She shot eight pars and a birdie on the front nine before ending with six pars and a birdie on the last nine holes. Fellow senior
Ellen Dong finished behind her in a tie for fourth after shooting a 72 (+1) in the opening round. She led the team with 17 pars on day one.
Sophomore
Carys Code followed Dong with a 73 (+2) on Sunday finishing in a tie for ninth. She had six pars on the first nine holes to open the day before answering with a birdie and eight pars on the back nine. Freshman
Zimo Li was the final Eagle to notch a qualifying round for the team score with a 74 (+3) on day one to sit in 12
th place. Her best holes came on the front nine where she shot two birdies and six pars. Fellow freshman
Covi Yan also competed on the A team posting an 79 (+8) on Sunday with 11 pars and a birdie.
Freshman
Angelina Zhang came out swinging in the opening round for the B team posting a 75 (+4) on Sunday to sit in a tie for 15
th. After struggling through the first eight holes, she closed the front nine with a birdie before shooting a 36 (+1) on the last nine holes. Following her was junior
Katie Park followed her with a 76 (+5) finishing in a tie for 18
th on Sunday. She had the second most pars on the B team with nine.
Also following one stroke behind was sophomore
Esther Jung who sits in a tie for 21
st following the opening round. She shot a 77 (+6) with birdies on the eighth and 17
th holes. Fellow sophomore
Derica Chiu also saw competition on Sunday for the B team shooting an 80 (+9) with seven total pars and two birdies on the back nine.
Senior
Heejo Hyun finished the day for Emory with an 83 (+12) sitting in a tie for 37
th. She totaled five pars on the front nine before struggling through the start of the back nine. Hyun finished strong with two pars and a birdie to end the day.
The Eagles will compete in round two of the Deb Jackson Invitational on Monday, April 14 with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM.
