The #1 ranked Emory women's golf team opened their home tournament in dominant fashion, shooting a team total 279 (-5) to lead by 11 shots going into day two of the Deb Jackson Invitational.
UAA foes Carnegie Mellon and WashU also placed in the top three, shooting team totals of 290 (+6) and 300 (+16) respectively.
Xinyi Zheng is at the top of the individual leaderboard and leading the team at the end of day one, shooting a 66 (-5) on the round with six birdies and a bogey.
The junior duo of
Carys Code and
Esther Jung shot four strokes behind Zheng with a 70 (-1) on the day to tie for second place. Code shot four birdies and three bogeys while Jung shot the only Eagle of the entire round along with three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.
Up next on the leaderboard with a 73 (+2) is
Covi Yan as she delivered a consistent round with only three bogeys and a birdie to take ninth.
Rounding out the starting five is
Zimo Li, finishing in 16
th place with a 75 (+4) on the day as she recorded two birdies and six bogeys on the day.
In the second group of Eagles, senior
Cindy Wang tied with Li for 16
th to lead the team.
One shot behind Li and Wang is independent athlete
Jida Chiravachradej who shot a birdie, two bogeys and a double bogey in the first round to end in 26
th place.
Behind her is senior
Katie Park who shot a 78 (+7) on the day with a birdie, four bogeys and two double bogeys to finish in 31
st.
Junior
Derica Chiu and sophomore
Angelina Zhang came in three shots behind Park as they tied for 38
th with an 81 (+10).
Rounding out the leaderboard for the Eagles is senior
Kiley Malmberg as she shot an 82 (+11) to come in 41
st place.
The Eagles will play the second round tomorrow with a shotgun start set for 9:00 a.m.
