The #1 ranked Emory women's golf team finished the first day of the Georgia State Invitational in fifth place, shooting a team total 591 (+15) after two rounds amongst a crowded field of Division I talent.
Host team Georgia State is currently in the lead at 583 (+7) while Quinnipiac sits in second three strokes behind and West Georgia shot six strokes behind the lead to take third.
Sophomore
Zimo Li is in fourth place going into day two, shooting a 140 (-4) on the day. The sophomore shot two bogeys and three birdies in the first round but had a bogey-free round two with three birdies across the second set of 18.
Behind her is junior
Carys Code who shot 146 (+2) over the first two rounds to land in 11
th place. She shot a 71 (+3) in her first round with four bogeys and a birdie, but improved in the second round as she went one under par with six birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
Freshman
Xinyi Zheng finished the day in the top 25, shooting 149 (+5) over two rounds. She shot three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in the first round for a 74 (+2) but went three over par in her second round with a pair of double bogeys and a birdie to end round two.
Seven shots behind Zheng is sophomore
Covi Yan who ended the day in 55
th place. She shot 11 bogeys, three birdies and two double bogeys over 36 holes to shoot a 156 (+12).
Two shots behind Yan is junior
Esther Jung who also shot 11 bogeys on the day along with four birdies and three double bogeys to finish round two in 60
th place.
Rounding things out for the Eagles as an independent is junior
Derica Chiu who shot 165 (+21) on the day to end in 82
nd place. She recorded seven bogeys, a birdie and a double bogey in round one and had a birdie-less round two with eight bogeys and a pair of double bogeys to end the first day of competition.
The Eagles will compete in the final round tomorrow, with
Zimo Li teeing off at 8:30 a.m. to get the day started.
