Emory University men's soccer graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu was named the United Soccer Coaches National Division III Player of the Month as announced by the organization Friday morning.
Cubeddu had a highlight-full month of September as he led the No. 2 ranked Emory University men's soccer team to a perfect record of 10-0 while the Eagles outscored their non-conference opponents by a combined margin of 38-4. Cubeddu started each of the team's 10 games and finished the month with team-leading totals of 10 goals and 24 points while also leading the team with 56 shots, 21 shots on goal and four game-winning goals.
Through one month of competition, Cubeddu ranks among the nation's leaders in numerous statistical categories. As of October 3rd, he stands second in Division III in shots per game (5.60), third in GWG, eighth in total points, ninth in points per game (2.40), 10th in both goals scored and goals per game (1.00), 31st in shots on goal per game (2.10) and 77th in total assists (4).
The graduate transfer has recorded at least one point in eight of his first 10 games donning an Emory uniform including a goal in seven contests. He has set an Emory record in back-to-back games, record a program-high 11 shots in the win at Piedmont before becoming the sixth player in team history to score four goals in a game as he tied the team record in the 5-0 win over Sewanee.
Behind Cubeddu, Emory has its first double-digit winning streak since 2014 and has started a season at 10-0 or better for the fifth time in program history. The Eagles' 10-game winning streak is tied for the third-longest in team history. The No. 2 national ranking is tied for the highest in school history.
Emory is set to start University Athletic Association competition on Sunday when the Eagles travel to Pittsburgh, PA to face Carnegie Mellon at 11:00 AM.
