The ITA Cup continued Friday in Rome, Georgia for members of the Emory University women's tennis team with one doubles team advancing to the semifinal round.
The senior tandem of Emily Kantrovitz and Iris Berman moved on in their quest for the Division III crown as they toppled Gustavus Adolphus' pairing of Kaya Bruijn and Karina Elvestrom in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (4). With the win, the third-seeded Eagles advance to Saturday's semifinals to oppose second-seeded Lindsay Eisenman and Rebecca Kong out of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The semifinals match is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 PM at the Rome Tennis Center.
On the opposite side of the draw, the Emory team of senior Izzy Antanavicius and freshman Erika Olson saw their tournament run conclude as the fell in straight set to Johns Hopkins' Lia Melvin/Jay Xiao, 6-2, 7-5. They'll move to the consolation round to finish the weekend, playing Trinity's Trinity Levy/Rosabella Andrade at 3:30 PM on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Antanavicius battled CMS' Kong in the quarterfinal round of the singles tournament. Despite an opening set win by Antanavicius, 6-3, Kong rebounded to earn 6-4, 6-3 wins over the final two sets to bounce Antanavicius from the main draw. She'll take on MIT's Fiona Lee at 9:00 AM Saturday in consolation action.
