Members of the Emory University women's tennis team were back on the courts on Thursday as the ITA Cup got underway at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
Both Eagles' doubles teams in action secured wins on the afternoon and senior Izzy Antanavicius moved on to the quarterfinal round in singles following a straight set win.
During the morning session, Antanavicius stayed unbeaten this fall with another win as she dispatched Skidmore's Ginevra Muratori 7-6 (3), 6-0 to move into Friday's quarterfinal round where she'll oppose Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Rebecca Kong at 9:00 AM.
On the other side of the draw, senior Emily Kantrovitz went against CMS' other entrant, Ananya Sriniketh, but despite a 6-1 opening set win, Kantrovitz was unable to pull off the victory as Sriniketh rallied with 6-4 lines in final two sets for the win. She'll move into Friday's consolation round to take on Gustavus Adolphus' Kaya DeBruijin.
In the afternoon, the Eagles went toe-to-toe with a pair of WashU doubles teams in the opening round of the draw.
Kantrovitz along with classmate Iris Berman, the tournament's third-overall seed, earned a hard fought 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 decision over the Bears' Eliana Hanna/Ally Lin while Antanavicius and freshman Erika Olson earned one of the day's biggest wins as they downed the No. 1 overall seed, Eleanor Archer/Caitlin Bui, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 to move into the quarterfinals.
The doubles quarterfinals will be held Friday afternoon with Antanavicius/Olson being paired against Johns Hopkins' Lia Melvin/Jay Xiao and Kantrovitz/Berman set to face GAU's DeBruijin/Karina Elvestrom starting at 1:30 PM.
