The Emory University women's tennis program has returned to the court for the 2024-25 season competing in the WCU Fall Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
The Invitational is being played in hidden dual format where each team competes in singles and doubles matches against different programs. The Eagles faced the Bellarmine University Knights in singles competition to start the day and finished with doubles competition against Western Carolina and Gardner-Webb.
In singles against the Knights, four of the Eagles' five winning matches were won in straight set fashion. Junior
Emily Kantrovitz continued her impressive career taking her match with a 6-3, 6-0 decision followed by a 6-3, 6-4 win from junior
Izzy Antanavicius. Her doubles partner, and fellow junior,
Iris Berman also picked up a straight-set victory in the match with a 6-2, 6-2 line. Another pair of doubles partners, sophomore
Yanire Marte and senior
Eliza McPherron, also won their matches. Marte finished her match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision while McPherron won her set 3-6, 6-2 after a 12-10 tiebreaker.
Next in competition was doubles against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. Kantrovitz saw competition with graduate student
Dakota Fordham while Marte and McPherron also teamed up for the first time. Antanavicius and Berman showed out in their first match together taking their doubles match against the Bulldgos with a 6-2 victory.
Fordham and Kantrovitz were up again in doubles competition against Western Carolina falling 7-6 after forcing a tiebreaker in the match. Berman and Antanavicius saw another win on the day taking their match against the Catamounts with a 6-2 decision.
The Eagles will return to the courts tomorrow, September 22 where they will face Bellarmine (8:45 AM) in doubles followed by Gardner-Webb (11:15 AM) and Western Carolina (5:00 PM) in singles.
