Watry Breaks 800m Program Record; Eagles Finish Competition at Lee Flames Invitational

The Emory University outdoor track and field program competed in the final day of competition at the Lee Flames Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Cleveland, Tennessee.

The Eagles were led by senior Spencer Watry who broke the program record in the 800m. He took home a second place finish in the event with a time of 1:50.19 which ranks first in Division III this season.

Also on the track for the men was junior Jonathan Orelowitz who took sixth in the steeplechase with a 9:44.16 mark while senior Grant Thompson took seventh in the event running a 9:49.28. Junior Geoff Point-du-Jour saw a top-15 finish in the 400m with a time of 51.40. Rounding out things on the track was the 4x400m relay group of Point-du-Jour, sophomore Henry Brandstadter and freshmen Andrew Burchett and Jack Tsai who took ninth in the event with a time of 3:26.54.

Starting on the field for the men was freshman Olivier Jawornicki who competed in the javelin throw finishing fifth with a distance of 49.60m. Brandstadter followed with a first place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.13m while graduate student Aiden Gilbert finished third with a 6.45m mark. Senior Kenya Sei finished things for the men with a 36.51m distance in the discus throw good for a 13th place finish.

On the field for the women was junior Caroline Hansen in the long jump who finished 13th with a distance of 4.78m.

Starting on the track was freshman Cameron Gupta taking a third place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 11:21.66 which ranks 22nd in the division this season. Freshman Emma Flowers also competed in the event taking 11th running a 12:25.32.

The Eagles saw three competitors in the 800m event taking sixth, seventh and ninth. Sophomore Madison Tiaffay finished sixth in the event with a time of 2:15.57 followed by a 2:15.89 mark from sophomore Luna McCauley. Senior Lily Taylor finished the event in ninth with a time of 2:17.17.

The 4x400m relay group of freshmen Payton Fleming and Annabelle Tanner, senior Lucy Hansen and McCauley finished the day with a seventh place finish running a 4:10.58.

The Eagles will return to the track on Friday, April 12 sending athletes to the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic and the Berry Field Day.
