Fineman Breaks Program Record as Women's Track and Field Opens First Day of UAA Championships

The Emory University women's track and field program opened the first day of the UAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

After seven scored events, the Eagles sit in fourth place with 28 points while the WashU Bears hold the top spot with 86 points. Two Eagles also earned All-UAA honors for their top-three finishes.

Earning points and leading the way for the Eagles was junior Sarah Fineman who broke the program record in the shot put with a distance of 13.10m good for a third place finish for All-UAA status.

Also earning All-UAA status was graduate student Nikki Boon who took second place in the long jump with a distance of 5.60m. She also competed in the shot put alongside Fineman taking sixth place to also earn points for the Eagles. 

Starting things on the track was the women's 100m where juniors Audrey Johnson (11.73, 1st), Kaya Binetti (12.07, 6th) and Maura Dianno (12.33, 8th) all qualified for the finals tomorrow. Also qualifying for the finals in the 100m hurdles was Boon who finished sixth with a time of 14.98 and senior Amaya Martin finishing seventh (15.23).

Johnson and Binetti also competed in the 200m and qualified for the finals with their second and fifth place finishes. Junior Dashiel Tao Harris saw action in the 400m prelims running the best time in her heat with a 56.72 to qualify for the finals. Also qualifying was junior Mina Leopold with her fifth place finish (58.14).

Other top performers on the track in prelims included junior Caroline Hansen in the 400m hurdles ( 1:06.31, 7th), senior Lily Taylor (2:12.01, 4th) and junior Madison Tiaffay (2:13.18, 5th) in the 800m.

Rounding out the scoring for the women was freshman Cameron Gupta who finished sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:43.24 and fellow freshman Elizabeth Csikai who took fifth in the 10000m running a 38:30.85. The 4x800m relay group of senior Lucy Hansen, junior Jenna Daly and freshmen Annabelle Tanner and Payton Fleming finished the day with a fifth place finish with a time of 9:32.99.

The Eagles will conclude competition at the UAA Championships tomorrow in Pittsburgh with the first event of the day slated to begin at 9:00 AM.
