Women Take Third Place Finish at UAA Indoor Championships

The Emory University women's indoor track and field team saw a third place finish at the 2024 UAA Indoor Championships in New York, New York by virtue of seven All-UAA performances.

The Eagles took their third place finish garnering 112.5 points over two days. Chicago took the silver position with 170 points and there was nothing stopping WashU who took the UAA indoor title with 190 points. The Eagles earned nine All-UAA finishes throughout both days of the championships.

Senior Libby Ranocha led the way for the women breaking yet another program record running a 2:11.18 in the 800m to finish third in the event and earn All-UAA honors.

Also earning All-UAA honors for Emory was junior Audrey Johnson who took a third place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.73 seconds. Rounding out the individual All-UAA recognition was graduate student Brigid Hanley who finished second in the 3000m with a time of 9:36.88.

Johnson and Ranocha were a part of the other Eagles earning All-UAA honors along with freshman Hannah Riley and graduate student Nikki Boon as they took home a second place finish in the 4x400m relay as they crossed the finish line in 3:51.58, the fourth best time in program history.

On the field for the women, Boon posted a distance of 12.86m in the shot put earning her second All-UAA honor of the day. Freshman Linda Wang followed with her first career All-UAA honor taking third in the high jump with a height of 1.58m while junior Caroline Hansen rounded out the day taking third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.55m.

Others earning points for Emory was junior Jenna Daly who took a sixth place finish in the mile running a 5:05.20. Boon and senior Amaya Martin finished just outside of the top three finishing fourth and fifth in the 60m hurdles finals with times of 8.92 and 9.16 respectively. In the 60m dash, junior Dashiel Tao Harris and Kaya Binetti saw a fourth and eighth place finish rounding out the sprints.

Junior Mina Leopold started the long sprints for the Eagles taking eighth in the 400m running a 1:00.59 followed by a fifth place finish from sophomore Madison Tiaffay in the 800m (2:13.56). Daly also competed in the 800m finishing eighth with a time of 2:23.14.

The trio of Johnson, Harris and Binetti also scored points for the Eagles in the 200m with their top-eight finishes. Junior Sarah Fineman saw a fourth place finish in the shot put behind Boon with a 12.40m distance while senior Paige Thielke followed with an eighth place tie in the high jump with a height of 1.48m.

The Eagles will compete in one final regular season meet this upcoming weekend at the Tufts Final Qualifier in Boston as the Emory athletes get one last chance to qualify for the national meet.
