The No. 5 ranked Emory women's cross country team traveled north to Attleboro, Massachusetts to compete in the 2024 UAA Championship meet, hosted by Brandeis University. In the very competitive 72-runner field, it was two Eagles that crossed the checkered tape first. Graduate student
Brigid Hanley and senior
Liesl Scherrer made history, becoming the first teammates in program history to finish one-two at the UAA Championship Meet. Hanley's first-place performance followed by Scherrer in second secured both runners First Team All-UAA honors.

As a team, the Eagles went on to finish fourth with a score of 85. No. 11 ranked Chicago won the event with a cumulative score of 38, having five runners finish inside of the top-12. Rounding out the top three was #4 NYU at 60 points and #8 WashU at 75. The race was run at Highland Park's 6k course.

Hanley is the fourth Eagle in program history to finish first at the conference championship meet, joining Annika Urban (2022), Sarah Byrd (2001), and Christine Gallagher (1994) in doing so. Hanley's time of 21:07.6 sets a new personal-best at the distance and clocks in as the sixth best time in team history. With Scherrer's second-place finish, this marks the first time in Emory's history that the women recorded the top-two finishers at the UAA Championship meet. Scherrer's time was also a new personal-best at the 6k distance.

Freshman
Davis Johnson was the next Eagle to cross the finish line, clocking in at 22:15.1 in 22
nd place, recording a new personal best time. Close behind was sophomore
Madison Tiaffay, with a time of 22:24.6 and in 27
th place. Rounding out the top-five finishers for Emory was sophomore
Cameron Gupta, coming in 34
th place with a time of 22:33.2.

A trio of freshmen rounded out the performances with
Ashlyn Pallotta coming in 44
th with a time of 23:07.3,
Rowan Miller in 54
th with a time of 23:36.4, and
Arden Gray in 55
th with a time of 23:40.6.

The Eagles will take the next week off before competing at the NCAA South Region Championship. The event will be held at the Choctaw Running Trails in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday, November 16
th.
