The Emory women's cross country team competed in the NCAA National Championship meet on Saturday morning, taking part in the event after earning an at-large selection. Bringing back a roster with plenty of championship pedigree this season, the Eagles tied their best performance at the NCAA Championships in program history with a seventh-place finish, matching the mark set by the 1997 team. The event was held at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terra Haute, Indiana.
Emory finished with a team score of 294, with three runners finishing in the top-100 of the 290-runner field. MIT won the NCAA Championship with a score of 128, narrowly besting Chicago by 10 points. Williams rounded out the top-three, scoring a 155.
Emory was led by an All-American performance from graduate student
Brigid Hanley. This is the second consecutive season that Hanley earned All-America distinction, becoming the third Eagle in program history to log multiple All-America performances, joining Sarah Byrd (2000 & 2001) and Annika Urban (2021 & 2022) in the elite club.
Hanley raced to a 12th place finish, clocking in at 21:19.1 at the 6k distance, 12 seconds shy of her personal-best at the distance. Senior
Liesl Scherrer narrowly missed out on an All-American performance as she crossed the finish line in 44th with a time of 21:50.0. Rounding out the top-100 performances for Emory was freshman
Ashlyn Pallotta. In her first collegiate season, the rookie finished 98th with a new personal-best time of 22:21.0.
Sophomore
Madison Tiaffay had a solid performance in her second championship meet, finishing 102nd with a time of 22:22.8. Rounding out the scoring for Emory was freshman
Davis Johnson who finished in 140th and clocking in at 22:35.0.
Also competing at the meet were sophomores
Cameron Gupta and
Elizabeth Csikai. Gupta recorded a 160th place finish with a time of 22:42.9 while Csikai came in 276th overall and logged a time of 24:06.0.
This marks the first time in program history that the Eagles have finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Championship meet in back-to-back seasons. It is the fourth instance overall.
