The Emory University women's tennis program wrapped things up at the annual ITA Cup in Mount Berry, Georgia on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Junior
Emily Kantrovitz and graduate student
Dakota Fordham teamed up for the final time this fall competing for the Division III doubles title against Caitlin Bui and Eleanor Archer of WashU.
Â
The Eagles' duo had taken on three rounds of competition to reach the finals facing Skidmore College, Pacific University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps over the past three days. The WashU tandem had also faced No. 1 seeded Pomona-Pitzer and ITA South Regional winners Sewanee to reach the title match on Sunday.
Â
The first set was a back and forth battle between the two programs reaching a 6-6 line forcing a tiebreaker. The Bears were able to pull away with the win in the first set taking the tiebreaker with a 7-1 score.
Â
Emory fought another tough battle in the second set posting three points in the set but the Bears were able to continue their momentum and take the second set 6-3.
Â
Kantrovitz and Fordham become just the seventh duo in program history to reach the ITA Cup Division III Doubles final and the first since head coach
Bridget Disher and assistant coach
Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico took second in 2017.
Â
The Eagles will take the rest of the fall off before beginning spring competition on February 9, 2025 against SCAD-Atlanta at home at 1:00 PM.
