The Emory women's tennis team wrapped up the ITA South Regional on Tuesday afternoon with an all-Emory championship match in the singles portion of the event. After spending the weekend in Mount Berry, Georgia, the Eagles returned to the Woodruff P.E. Center in Atlanta to play the championship match.

Juniors
Emily Kantrovitz and
Izzy Antanavicius clashed in what turned out to be an epic battle for the regional crown. Despite dropping the opening set, 5-7, Kantrovitz battled back to win the second and third sets, 6-4 and 6-2. With the win, Kantrovitz became the first Eagle to win back-to-back regional singles titles since
Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico did so in 2017 and 2018.
Â
The two battled under the sun in the Atlanta heat, with hardware on the line. The match started with Antanavicius outperforming her classmate, forcing Kantrovitz to make mistakes and narrowly win the first set, 7-5. Yet, the reigning champion was resilient and fought back to win the following set, 6-4, before dominating the third and final set, 6-2.
Â
Antanavicius had a strong run to the finals, dropping just one set over the course of the entire event before her match with Kantrovitz. This was her first time playing in an ITA Regional Championship singles match.
Â
Kantrovitz dominated all tournament long, also only having dropped one set up until her championship battle with her teammate. With the win, she punched her ticket to the ITA Cup which will take place later this month. She is searching for her first ITA Cup title after falling short at the event last year. Antanavicius will also join Kantrovitz at the ITA Cup due to reaching the finals match.Â
Â
The at-large bids to determine who will join Kantrovitz and Antanavicius at the event will be announced at a later date. The event will start on Thursday, October 10
th and conclude Sunday, October 13
th while taking place at the Rome Tennis Center in Mount Berry, Georgia.
