The Emory University men's tennis team got its final work in
before the ITA National Indoor Championships on Thursday, defeating
NCAA Division I member Georgetown University. The Eagles boosted
their spring dual record to 4-1 following a 5-2 triumph over the
Hoyas in match that was played at the Regency Sport and Health Club
in McLean, Va.
Emory earned the doubles point after winning two of three
matches. The Eagles' No. 1 tandem of Chris Goodwin and
Will Humphreys recorded a tight 9-8 decision over GU's
Michael Clark and Alex Friedlich while the No. 3 duo of Dillon
Pottish and Colin Egan prevailed over Casey Distaso and Brian Ward,
8-3.
The Eagles captured four of six singles matches, highlighted by
Pottish's methodical 6-2, 6-1, win over Clark at the No. 1
spot which upped his overall mark to 14-1 this year, 5-0 in dual
action. Egan was impressive in registering a 6-2, 6-2
decision over Andrew Bruhn at No. 3, his third triumph in four
outings this spring. Other singles winners included Nick
Szczurek at No. 5 and Simon LaPerusse at No. 6.
The Eagles return to action on Friday when the battle Mary
Washington in a first-round match at the National Indoor
Championships in Fredericksburg, Va.
