Men's Tennis began play at the ITA Cup Thursday afternoon in Rome, GA. It was a .500 day for the Eagles as they went 1-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.
In singles, sophomore
Ruilin Feng swept Alexander Stage from Whitman College in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinal round tomorrow. Senior
Dean Kamenev took on Advik Mareedu of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, but dropped his match in a 2-7 tiebreak
In doubles, the sophomore/freshman duo of
Ajay Kartik and
Matthew Johnstone took on Lleyton Mendietta and Villem Aadamsoo of Hamilton College. The Eagles dropped the first set 6-1 but came back to take the second set 6-3 and the third set 11-9 to win the match and advance to the quarterfinal round tomorrow. The senior/freshman duo of
John Lasanajak and
Daniel Kim took on Henry Wilson and Sibi Raja of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps but got swept in straight sets.
The Eagles will be back on the court tomorrow with Kartik and Johnstone taking on UChicago's
Christian Liew and Murugesan Shrikeshav in the doubles quarterfinal and Feng taking on Mark Kneiss of Bowdoin College in the quarterfinals. Kamenev as well as Lasanajak/Kim will compete in consolation rounds.
