Emory University has named Mattie White as assistant vice president of Campus Life and Clyde Partin Sr. Director of Athletics and Recreation. She begins the role on Sept. 21.

In her new role, White will be responsible for providing a clear vision and strategic oversight for the Athletics Department and the Recreation and Wellness Department, including 19 varsity athletics teams, 29 club sports programs and recreational facilities which collectively serve more than 15,000 students. She will serve on the Campus Life leadership team and report directly to Keiko Price Carter, vice president for student engagement and dean of Campus Life.

White brings more than two decades of intercollegiate athletics experience leading athletic departments through strategic planning and operational excellence. Throughout her career, White has championed academic achievement, leadership development, community engagement and athletic participation as interconnected components of the student experience.

A native of Cambridge, Ohio, White holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in education from Ohio University. She earned a master's degree in athletic administration and counselor education before completing a PhD in health behavior from Indiana.

White served most recently as deputy athletic director and senior woman administrator at the University of Delaware. A member of the senior executive team, she oversaw facilities, event operations, compliance and equipment operations. She also led the sport administration team, serving as the primary sport administrator for men's basketball, women's basketball and softball. In this role, she collaborated with department leadership to drive operational excellence, competitive success, fiscal stewardship and a transformative student-athlete experience. 

"Mattie brings tremendous student-centered energy and enthusiasm to work," says Price Carter. "She is a tested leader who supports her coaches and teams with experience taking storied athletics programs and driving them to the next level."

Before her work at the University of Delaware, White served in progressive leadership roles at Indiana University, including deputy director of athletics and senior woman administrator. She was a key member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic direction and oversight for academic services, sports medicine and nutrition, strength and conditioning, and the Excellence Academy. White was the primary sports administrator for seven high-profile varsity programs, including football, wrestling, women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's track and field.

Prior to her time at Indiana University, White gained Division III exposure with Macalester College as the assistant director of Campus Programs for Multicultural Life as well as a co-coordinator for the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, where she helped to establish comprehensive personal, academic, service-learning and career development initiatives geared towards student-athletes.

White succeeds Price Carter, who was appointed vice president for Student Engagement and dean of Campus Life at Emory earlier this summer.
