Men's Soccer Win Streak Extends to Six; Defeats NYU, 1-0, Behind Halpern's Career-High Nine Saves

The Emory University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in University Athletic Association competition as the Eagles came away with a 1-0 victory over New York University Saturday afternoon on the campus of Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey.

Emory ran its winning streak to six games with the verdict and improved to 11-1-2 on the season and an unblemished 3-0 in UAA play while the Violets fall to 0-3 in conference action and 8-3-1 overall.

The Eagles were led by senior Geoffrey Halpern who was dynamic between the posts for Emory, recording a career high nine saves for his fourth clean sheet, and sophomore Ewen Robertson who netted his sixth goal as a member of the Eagles to move into a tie for the team lead.

Robertson provided the decisive goal in the 31st minute when he slipped past a NYU defender and slotted a shot to the left post for the lone goal of the afternoon.

Spotted a 1-0 goal lead, Halpern and the Emory backline did the rest as the Eagles held the Violets scoreless with NYU winning the shots battle 22-8 and had a 9-2 advantage on shots on goal.

In the second half, Halpern was terrific as he halted all seven shots that came his away across the final 45 minutes with none looming larger than his save in the 82nd minute as he turned in a miraculous save on the goal line to deny Tim Brdaric's offering that appeared to be ticketed to the left corner.

The Eagles will look to continue their winning streak next weekend with a road trip to the Mideast to take on UChicago and WashU.
