The No. 6 ranked Emory University women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Regional Finals following a 4-0 win against North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday morning at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.
The Eagles defeated the Battling Bishops is a tidy 96 minutes to advance to Sunday's finale where they'll wait for the winner of No. 9 Trinity (TX) and No. 13 Washington & Lee. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 PM in Atlanta with the winner advancing to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the final rounds.
Emory began its NCAA tournament run with a quick decision in doubles, clinching the point in just over a half hour. Sophomore Rachel Hernandez and freshman Holyn Karp picked up the first win at 6-3 on court two with the combo of senior Izzy Antanavicius and junior Yanire Marte coming through after with the 6-2 decision on court one. When play concluded, the Eagles also held on court three with sophomore Daniela Livson and freshman Audrey Pogue leading 5-3.
The Eagles continued to cruise in singles with the clinching points coming on courts two, four and five.
Antanavicius posted a 6-0, 6-0 triumph on court two to start with Hernandez finishing not long after on court four 6-1, 6-1. On court five, Karp turned in the clinching score with her 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
At the end of the match, the Eagles saw leads in the second set from Marte (6-0, 4-1) and Pogue (6-1, 4-3) on courts three and six while Berman owned a 5-3 advantage in the opening set on the top court.
