Four from Women's Tennis Earn All-UAA Honors

Following a third place finish at the University Athletic Association Championships last month, the Emory University women's tennis program saw four members of the team recognized with All-Association honors as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.

Seniors Izzy Antanavicius and Emily Kantrovitz highlighted the Eagles' selections with First Team nods while junior Yanire Marte landed on the Second Team and freshman Holyn Karp was Honorable Mention for singles. Emory had one doubles team recognized as well with Antanavicius and Marte garnering Second Team honors.

Antanavicius makes her first career appearance on the All-UAA First Team for either singles or doubles after going 3-0 in her matches at the UAA Championships with two of her wins representing match-clinching points against No. 15 Case Western Reserve and No. 6 Carnegie Mellon. This season, Antanavicius leads the Eagles with a 22-5 record in singles and captured her first-ever ITA South Regional singles crown earlier this season.

Kantrovitz makes her fourth straight appearance on the All-Association First Team as she has posted a 17-6 overall record in singles including a 13-2 mark at the No. 1 position. She previously had an 11-match winning streak this spring and this past fall advanced to the championship match of the ITA South Regional where she fell in three sets to Antanavicius. Kantrovitz added a pair of three-set wins against opponents from Sewanee and Wesleyan during the ITA National Indoor Championships.

Marte earns her second consecutive All-UAA Second Team selection for No. 4 singles as she currently owns a 14-7 record while going 10-6 in dual matches. Marte picked up one win in Emory's opening round defeat of CWRU at the UAA Championships and is currently riding a three-match winning streak. She advanced to the quarterfinal round of the ITA South Regional back in September.

For doubles, Antanavicius and Marte have formed one of the toughest tandems in the conference as well as the nation with their 13-3 record this spring while playing at the No. 2 position. The duo has won eight of their last nine matches including a 2-1 record at the UAA Championships with wins coming against WashU and Carnegie Mellon. They added a 2-1 mark as well during the ITA National Indoor Championships as the Eagles finished fourth.

Karp rounds out the Emory All-Association recognition with her Honorable Mention status for No. 6 singles. She has bolstered the back end of the Eagles' lineup this spring with her team-leading 15 wins in dual matches while posting an overall record of 15-4 including a 5-1 mark at the No. 6 spot. Karp has won eight of her last nine matches and went 2-1 at the UAA Championships with wins against CWRU and Carnegie Mellon in straight sets.

The Eagles concluded the regular season with a 13-6 overall record and qualified for the NCAA postseason for a 41st consecutive season – the longest active streak in NCAA Division III. Emory will host the opening rounds in Atlanta from May 8-10 with its first match of the tournament run taking place at 10:00 AM on Saturday against the winner of Asbury-NC Wesleyan.
