The No. 6 ranked Emory University women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Championships once again as the Eagles received an at-large bid as the tournament field was announced Monday afternoon on NCAA.com.
Emory secures one of the 12 at-large bids to the 49-team field and were chosen as opening round hosts. The Eagles will welcome four additional teams to Atlanta for the opening rounds of the tournament, which will be held May 8-10. The Eagles will be making their 41st consecutive appearance in the NCAA postseason after posting an overall record of 13-6 and finishing third at the UAA Championships last month. Emory owns the longest active postseason streak at the NCAA Division III level.
The Eagles will receive a first round bye in the draw and will await the winner of North Carolina Wesleyan and Asbury in the second round. The Asbury Eagles (11-7) captured the CCS championship to reach the DIII tournament field for the second consecutive season while the No. 49 ranked Battling Bishops (16-4) punched their ticket by winning the USA South conference.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 13 Washington & Lee University makes its way to Atlanta following a 20-2 campaign that saw the team capture the ODAC Conference crown. The Generals will be pitted against the Tigers of No. 9 Trinity University (TX), champions of the Southern Athletic Association with a 17-1 record.
Asbury/NC Wesleyan will open the regional this Friday with second round matches taking place on Saturday, May 9th. The regional final will be played Sunday, May 10th with the winner advancing to the final site in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Along with team selections, individual selections to the NCAA Championships will be announced on Wednesday, May 6.
