The No. 8 ranked Emory University women's tennis concluded the University Athletic Association Championships Sunday morning with a 4-0 showing against No. 6 Carnegie Mellon University in the third place match played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The Eagles ended their trip to the Sunshine State in dominating fashion with the shutout over the Tartans. The whitewashing started in doubles where Emory took matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
Senior Izzy Antanavicius and junior Yanire Marte recorded a 6-3 finish on court two while CMU responded with a 6-4 win over senior duo Emily Kantrovitz/Iris Berman on the top court. In the decisive match on court three, sophomore Rachel Hernandez and freshman Holyn Karp pulled through with the 7-5 score to give EU the 1-0 edge.
Hernandez and Karp continued the momentum with showcases at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots in the lineup as the tandem put the Eagles in front at 3-0. Hernandez was the first to finish at 6-0, 6-1 followed by Karp on the sixth court, 6-2, 6-1.
With the Tartans leading in matches against Kantrovitz and Marte on courts one and four and Berman leading in set one on court two, it was Antanavicius that posted the clinching result for the Eagles at the No. 3 position with her straight set decision, 6-2, 6-3.
With Emory's regular season now concluded with an overall record of 13-6, the Eagles will now turn their attention to the NCAA tournament. They'll find out their postseason destination on Monday, May 4 when the tournament field is announced on NCAA.com
