Box Score 2 The Eagles had a split Sunday as they capped off their time at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 6-4 win against Maryville and a 3-2 loss to Depauw.
Game 1: Depauw 3, Emory 2
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings before Depauw struck with a solo home run in their half of the fourth to make it 1-0.
The Tigers added to their lead with a pair of runs in the fifth, but the Eagles responded as a
Megan Sutton RBI brought
Ella Hoyle home to put Emory on the board and bring the score to 2-1.
Despite trailing, the Eagles kept fighting as an RBI from freshman
Zoe Horning cut into the deficit and Emory brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh following a leadoff double from Hoyle but could not push across the tying run.
Game 2: Emory 6, Maryville 4
The Scots got on the board first with a three-run inning in the second, but Emory was quick to answer as Hoyle and
Lillian Ware came around to score to start the game 3-2.
In their half of the fourth, the Eagles took the lead thanks to a two-run smash from Hoyle, but Maryville responded by evening the score to make it 4-4, setting the stage for Emory's heroics in the seventh.
With one out in seventh and one runner on base, freshman
Zoe Horning came through with the biggest hit of her rookie campaign so far as she cracked a two-run homer to left field to walk it off in the NFCA Leadoff Classic finale.
The Eagles will be back on the field on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Gettysburg College, with the first pitch of game one set for 1:00 pm at Cooper Field in Atlanta.
