The No. 12 ranked Emory University men's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon in closely contest match to No.5 Denison University, falling to the Big Red, 4-3, at the Mayfield Club in Mayfield, Ohio.
DU got the match started with a clean sweep in doubles to open up to a 1-0 lead before the Eagles began their rallies in singles.
Emory notched wins at the top three positions in the lineup with sophomore
Ruilin Feng going 6-0, 6-1 for another dominating win at the No. 1 spot while both senior
Dean Kamenev and freshman
Daniel Kim recorded three set wins on courts two and three. Kim came through with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 result at the No. 3 spot with Kamenev battling to a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (6) line on court two.
The Big Red countered with straight set wins on courts four and five, setting up the decisive match at the No. 6 spot between DU's Anthony Payiavlas and Emory's
Stefan Karatosic. Karatosic forced a third set as he came back with 7-5 win after dropping the opening set 3-6. In the final set, Payiavlas got off to a strong start before closing with the 6-3 score.
The Eagles will look to rebound on April 10th with a matchup against No. 7 Johns Hopkins in Fredericksburg, Virginia on the campus of Mary Washington.
