The No. 12 ranked Emory University men's tennis team won its fourth straight match Thursday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over visiting Kalamazoo College at the WoodPEC in Atlanta. Following the win, Emory honored its senior class of Dean Kamenev, Alex Marino and John Lasanajak.
The Eagles picked up their second consecutive 7-0 win as Emory cruised to the shutout in less than two and half hours.
Doubles play saw the Eagles collect 6-2 wins on the top two courts with sophomores Ruilin Feng and Ajay Kartik teaming for the win on the top line and Kamenev/Lasanajak getting the job done on court two. On the third court, freshmen Daniel Kim and Matthew Johnstone concluded the sweep with a 7-5 decision.
Singles play saw all six matches finish in convincing fashion and via straight sets.
At the top spot, Feng posted a 6-1, 6-3 result followed by Kim (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 3 position, Kartik at the No. 4 spot (6-3, 6-1), Johnstone at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1) and freshman Stefan Karatosic at the sixth court (6-1, 6-0). Kamenev had one of the two shutout sets on the afternoon, winning 6-0 in his opening set, and concluded the match with a second set tiebreaker, 7-6 (2).
Emory will now head to Mayfield, Ohio this weekend for the Ohio Invitational on Saturday and Sunday when the Eagles will take on a pair of top 10 opponents in No. 6 Case Western Reserve and No. 5 Denison.
