The No. 8 ranked Emory University men's tennis team returned to the win column in its return to the courts following spring break with the Eagles dispatching crosstown foe Oglethorpe University, 5-2, Friday afternoon in Brookhaven.
After dropping the doubles point to the Stormy Petrels, the Eagles seized control of the match with wins on five of the six singles courts to improve to 5-5 on the season. Oglethorpe claimed the top singles match but Emory countered with straight set wins on each of the remaining match lines.
Freshman Matthew Johnstone highlighted the Eagles in singles competition with a double 6-0 verdict on court four and at courts two and three, freshman Daniel Kim (6-1, 6-2) and sophomore Ajay Kartik (6-2, 6-2) breezed past their counterparts.
In the final two matches of the afternoon, freshman Stefan Karatosic went to a first set tie break prior to posting a 7-6 (2), 6-1 winning line on court five and at the sixth position, Alec Anghel notched a 6-4, 7-6 (5) triumph.
The Eagles will be back on the courts all day Saturday with a doubleheader against Covenant and Berry starting at 10:00 AM on the SAAC courts on Emory's Clairmont campus.
