The Emory men's golf team began play at the Savannah Invitational Monday morning, carding 589 (+13) after two rounds to sit in ninth out of 20 teams going into day two.
Huntingdon is leading the pack after day one, shooting a 560 (-16) on the day. Rounding out the top three are Washington and Lee in second place with a 563 (-13) and Oglethorpe taking third with 561 (+1).
Brady Lagendyk is leading the Eagles going into day two, carding a 143 (-1) over the two rounds. The junior had a phenomenal opening round, shooting six birdies and one bogey across the round to put up a 67 (-5). His second round was more tumultuous as he shot six bogeys, four birdies and a double bogey to shoot a 76 (+4) to find himself in 13
th place going into day two.
Behind him was classmate
Kevin Mu, who put up a 147 (+3) on the day to sit in 28
th place. He had a consistent first round, only shooting three birdies and two bogeys to shoot a 71 (-1). His second round went differently as he shot six bogeys and two birdies to card a 76 (+4).
Pearse Lucas followed Mu on the leaderboard, carding a 149 (+5) across both rounds to land in 40
th place. Like Lagendyk, his first round was solid as he only carded two birdies and two bogeys, but the grad transfer ended up shooting six bogeys and a lone birdie in his second set of 18 holes.
Senior
Brian Hanson only shot one over Lucas' score, delivering a 150 (+6) on the day to finish in 48
th going into day two. He had a good rhythm on the front nine of his first round as he carded only two birdies, but had trouble regaining that rhythm on the back nine as he shot four bogeys, two birdies and a double bogey on the back nine. His second round looked a lot like the back nine of his first as he shot four bogeys, four birdies, and two double bogeys on the round.
Rounding things out on the course for the Eagles was sophomore
Zach Pelzar who shot a 158 (+14) on the day to sit in 89
th place. He carded four bogeys, two birdies and two double bogeys during the first round, having a similar performance in the second round as the second year shot three double bogeys, three bogeys and two birdies.
The Eagles will be back on the course tomorrow morning to play the third and final round of the Savannah Invitational.
