The Emory men's golf team began play at the NCAA Championships this morning, turning in a team total 288 (E) after 18 holes to land in fifth place on the first day of competition at Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon course.
Due to inclement weather this afternoon, the second half of the field will complete round one on Wednesday morning before the beginning of round two.
Brian Hanson currently leads the team as he finished day one in fifth place with a 70 (-2) through 18 holes. The senior shot a consistent round with three birdies and a bogey to open his final tournament as an Eagle.
Behind Hanson is
Pearse Lucas and
Kevin Mu as they tied on the leaderboard with a first-round score of 72 (E). Lucas and Mu each carded four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey on the day to land in 28
th place.
Two shots behind Hanson and Mu is freshman
Dru Devata who shot a 74 (+2) in his first NCAA Championship round for the blue and gold. Devata recorded two birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine, but found his rhythm on the back nine as she shot one birdie and made par on the remaining holes.
Rounding out the leaderboard for the Eagles
Brady Lagendyk who shot a 79 (+7) on the day to end in 198
th place. The junior shot four bogeys on the front nine, doing the same on the back nine along with a lone birdie on 13.
The Eagles will begin round two tomorrow after the rest of the field concludes round one in the morning.
