The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's tennis team concluded its spring break trip on Saturday, falling to No. 4 ranked Wesleyan University 5-2 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
In the second meeting between the two nationally prominent programs this month, the Cardinals opened with the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Seniors Iris Berman and Emily Kantrovitz fell 6-4 at the top spot and on courts two and three, Wesleyan topped both the Emory pairings of Izzy Antanavicius/Yanire Marte and Rachel Hernandez/Holyn Karp by 6-2 margins.
The Cardinals added to their lead with straight set victories on courts three, four and five before the Eagles got on the board with wins at the No. 1 and 6 spots in the lineup. Hernandez was a straight set winning at the sixth position, taking her match by a 7-5, 6-4 count, and on the main court, Kantrovitz rebounded after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In the final match of the afternoon, Berman forced a decisive set after starting 3-6, 6-4 but ultimately fell to her counterpart 6-4 in the final set.
The Eagles will return to Atlanta to host No. 15 Washington & Lee and Colby College in the first outdoor matches at the WoodPEC this spring on Saturday, March 21 and Monday, March 23.
