The No. 6 ranked Emory men's tennis team collected their first outdoor win of the spring season, defeating #33 Washington and Lee 5-2 at the Woodruff PE Center Wednesday afternoon.
In doubles, the sophomore duo of Ruilin Feng and Ajay Kartik got the 6-2 win in the No. 1 position, but senior Dean Kamenev and freshman Matthew Johnstone dropped their match 3-6. The rookie duo of Daniel Kim and Stefan Karatosic got the Eagles second win to clinch the doubles point at the No. 3 position, getting the 6-4 win over W&L.
In singles, all four wins Emory wins were decided in straight sets. Kamenev got things started at the No. 1 position, delivering a 6-1, 7-5 decision. Junior Ryan Nash fed off the energy with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position over W&L's Cannaliato. At the No. 3 position, Johnstone got it done with a 6-3, 6-2 verdict and Kartik sealed the deal for the Eagles at the No. 4 position with his 6-2, 6-4 win. Washington and Lee's two points were picked up on courts five and six in three sets.
The Eagles will be back on the court in two weeks as they head to Orlando, FL to take on Northwood, Keiser and Barry during their spring break trip.
