The No. 6 ranked Emory University men's tennis team saw its national indoor title chances thwarted Friday afternoon, falling No. 2 Chicago 5-2 in the opening round of the 2026 National Indoor Championships at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minnesota.
With the defeat, the Eagles drop into the consolation bracket and await No. 21 Gustavus Adolphus at 7:30 PM ET/6:30 PM CT on Saturday.
The Maroons began Friday's match by taking two of the three matches to seal the doubles point. Emory's tandem of Ruilin Feng and Ajay Kartik secured a 7-6 (7) win at the top spot but Chicago notched 7-6 (5) and 6-4 triumphs over the Emory pairings of Dean Kamenev/Matthew Johnstone and Stefan Karatosic/Daniel Kim on the other two courts.
In singles, Feng and Kim recorded wins for the Eagles with their decision of 6-2, 6-0 by feng on court one and 6-4, 6-1 by Kim on court four but the Maroons were able to record victories on the other four courts to knock out Emory on day one.
