The Emory University men's swimming & diving team added five more All-UAA finishes as well as one more conference title as the team extended its lead on Friday as the University Athletic Association Championships continued in Chicago.
Sophomore Solly Berkenwald headlined the Eagles on day three as he completed his sweep on the diving boards with a 490.15 performance in the finals of the 1-meter and stamping his claim to be the UAA Diver of the Year for a second consecutive season. Freshman Thomas Stone added a second All-UAA finish to his resume as he placed third with a finals score of 469.00.
Following the Eagles' efforts on the boards, graduate student Crow Thorsen notched the team's first All-UAA finish in the swimming events as he finished third in the 400 IM with a finals time of 3:51.07. Senior Henri Bonnault followed later in the session with a runner-up effort in the 100 Breaststroke as he touched with a time of 53.76.
The Eagles added an All-UAA showing in the night's final event as Bonnault along with sophomore Colin Zexter, senior Patrick Horton and sophomore Connor McHugh won bronze in the 200 Medley Relay at 1:27.72.
Emory saw additional top performances from junior McKee Thorsen in the 100 Fly (4th, 47.85), junior Hayden Tupper in the 200 Freestyle (4th, 1:37.75) as well as from graduate student Jared Zhang in the 100 Fly (5th, 48.02), senior Sven Becker in the 200 Free (5th, 1:38.51) and sophomore Zachary Spicer in the 100 Backstroke (5th, 49.21).
All told the Eagles had 17 athletes in A finals across the six individual events to power Emory to a 113.5-point lead entering the final day of competition. Through three nights, the Eagles have collected 1,272.5 points with NYU standing in second at 1,159 points and Chicago in the third at 967.5 points.
The final day of events is set to kick off at 11:00 AM ET with prelims followed by the diving prelims and finals. Finals of the swimming events will get underway at 6:30 PM ET.
