Sven Becker Chosen as NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Recipient

Emory University swimming & diving senior Sven Becker was recently selected as a winter recipient of the prestigious NCAA postgraduate scholarship as announced by the NCAA late last week.

Becker becomes the latest Eagle to be chosen for the award, which is a $10,000 scholarship that can be applied toward their current or future graduate degree programs, is annually bestowed upon student-athletes who excel academically and athletically while also serving as leaders in the community.

With Becker's selection for the honor, he becomes the 134th student-athlete to be a recipient of the postgraduate scholarship, as well as the 116th to be chosen since 2000 – the second-most by one NCAA institution during that time and second only to Stanford University. Becker also becomes the 65th member of the swimming & diving program to be selected for the scholarship.

As a unanimous choice as team captain, Becker led the Eagles to a University Athletic Association championship once again during the 2025-26 season as well as a fifth place finish at the NCAA Championships. During his time with the Eagles, he was part of four UAA title teams, two NCAA championship squads and one NCAA runner-up performance. Individually, Becker notched a pair of CSCAA All-America First Team honors as a member of the 800 Freestyle Relay, was a two-time CSCAA All-America Second Team honoree in the 200 IM and 200 Backstroke and earned two All-UAA nods in the 800 Free Relay. Additionally, Sven has been a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, including two First Team nods, as well as three UAA Winter All-Academic Team awards, and ended his Emory career as the program record holder in the 200 Backstroke.

Outside of the pool, Becker has spent countless hours volunteering with Special Olympics of Georgia as well as with Eagle Swim Club as a coach while boasting a 3.70 grade point average as he pursued an undergraduate degree in applied mathematics and a master's degree in public health in biostatistics. He's compiled over 600 hours combined as a Computational Mathematics Research assistant and as Urology Biostatistics intern. He plans to continue to pursue his master's degree at the Rollins School of Public Health with career aspirations as a biostatistician at a medical device company.
