Emory men's golf concluded play at the Gate City Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, turning in a 297 (+9) for their third and final round of the tournament to bring their three-round score to 871 (+7), putting the Eagles in fifth place to round out their time in Greensboro.
Sewanee held onto their lead from day one and took first place with a third-round score of 292 (+4) to bring their final score to 861 (-3) for the tournament. Rounding out the top three was Carnegie Mellon who turned in an 862 (-2) and Huntingdon who finished with an 863 (-1) on the tournament. The event was held at Forest Oaks Country Club.
Junior
Brady Lagendyk was the highest scoring Eagle of the tournament, tying for ninth overall with a total of 215 (-1) for the tournament after shooting a 75 (+3) in his third round. He had a consistent final round, making par on 12 out of 18 holes with two bogeys on the front nine, two bogeys on the back and a birdie on the tenth hole.
Close behind was grad transfer
Pearse Lucas who shot a 74 (+2) on the day. He made par on each of the front nine holes with the exception of a bogey on the eighth, but made three bogeys and two birdies on the back nine. This brought his total score to 219 (+3) for the tournament to see him tie for 20
th place.
Sophomore
Zach Pelzar and senior
Brian Hanson also each shot a 74 (+2) in their third rounds, bringing their final scores to 221 (+5) and leading them to both tie for 32
nd place. Pelzar recorded four birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in his final round while Hanson shot two birdies and four bogeys on the round.
Rounding out the scorecard for Emory was
Kevin Mu who shot five over on the day to bring his total score to 223 (+7) for the tournament. He shot two double bogeys, one birdie and two bogeys in the third round, finishing the event tied for 43
rd place.
The Eagles will have less than a week off before they head to Howie in the Hills, FL to compete in the NCAA Fall Preview at Mission Inn Resort. The event will consist of 54 holes between September 21 and September 23.
