Emory men's golf hit the course in Greensboro, NC on Monday to begin play at the Gate City Invitational. After two rounds of play, the Eagles put up 574 (-2) on the day and finished in fifth out of 18 teams at the conclusion of round two.
 Sewanee sits in first after day one, shooting a 569 (-7) on Monday. Rounding out the top three are Carnegie Mellon in second place with a 571 (-5) and Washington and Lee in third with a 573 (-3). The event is being played at Forest Oaks Country Club's Par-72 course.
 At the top of the leaderboard for the Eagles is junior
Brady Lagendyk, sitting four strokes under par after 36 holes. He recorded a 68 (-4) in his opening round and a 72 (E) in his second round, putting him in fifth place going into day two. Lagendyk was consistent on the front nine, making par on each hole. After a steady start, Lagendyk caught fire on the back nine making four birdies and ending the round with a 68 (-4). Going into round two, he started strong, made birdie on the fourth hole and then bogeyed on the fifth. Lagendyk continued to stay consistent throughout the rest of the round, making birdie on the 14
th hole and bogeying the 17
th hole, finishing the second round with an even 72 and finishing four under on the day, only four strokes off the leader.
 Next up was grad transfer
Pearse Lucas, who was competing in his first stroke-play event as an Emory Eagle. He had a rocky opening round, shooting three bogeys, four birdies and two double bogeys to go four over in his first round. Lucas came out strong on the front nine in round two, shooting four birdies and two bogeys to bring him two under par going into the back nine. Lucas found his footing in the back end of round two, making par on all nine holes with the exception of a birdie on 18, bringing him to three under for the second round and to a score of 145 (+1) on the day. This puts Lucas in 22
nd place going into round three.
Behind Lucas was junior
Kevin Mu who came out shaky to start the front nine, knocking in three bogeys and two birdies to bring him to one over par to start the round. Mu was really consistent through the back nine, making par on each of the last nine holes and ending the first round still at one over par. Mu began the second round by making par on the first two holes, shooting birdies on holes four and six, and ending his round with a bogey on the ninth hole, bringing him to even par going into the back nine. He started out strong, recording two birdies to start the round before hitting a rough spot with a double bogey on the 14
th hole. He shot steady the rest of the round before bogeying on 18 and ending his round one over. Mu went two over on the day which put him in 27
th place to end day one.

 Sophomore
Zach Pelzar and junior
Brian Hanson rounded things out on the leaderboard for the Eagles, with both golfers going three over par and sitting in 33
rd place going into day two. Pelzar had a consistent opening round apart from two bogeys on the back nine, putting him at even par going into round two. Hanson had a similar round with the exception of a double bogey on 16 and went into round two at two over par. Pelzar was hot on the front nine in the second round, shooting for par on six of the front nine holes, shooting a birdie on five and ending his round with a bogey on the ninth. Sitting at even going into round two, Pelzar hit four bogeys on the back nine with his only birdie coming from the 13
th hole. This put Pelzar at three over for the second round and the same on the day. Hansons round two had a rocky start as he shot three bogeys in a row on holes three through five. Sitting at one over going into the back nine, Hanson started strong with a birdie on the ninth, shot consistently up until a bogey on 15 brought him to even par and he shot for par the rest of the round, bringing him to one over par for the second round and 147 (+3) on the day.
The Eagles will hit the course at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning for a shotgun start to round three of the tournament.
