Members of the Emory University women's tennis team went a perfect 4-0 in matches played Saturday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California, advancing to the national quarterfinals in both the singles and doubles draws.
In singles, juniors
Emily Kantrovitz and
Izzy Antanavicius are still dancing as both Eagles won a pair of matches on the opening day to reach the Round of 8.Â
Antanavicius began her day with a straight set win over Pacific's Cassidy Binder, 6-1, 7-5, before providing one of the major results of the day when she knocked out the draw's No. 1 overall seed in Angie Zhou of Pomona-Pitzer with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 line.
For Kantrovitz, the tournament's No. 2 overall seed, she opened the draw with two straight set victories as she ousted Middlebury's Elsie Van Wieren 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round before taking out Skidmore's Konika Dhull with a 6-4, 6-2 margin.
In the quarterfinals, Antanavicius will be paired against the No. 5 seed in Wesleyan's Jacqueline Soloveychik in the top half of the bracket and Kantrovitz will battle Kenyon's Eleni Lazaridou in Sunday's quarterfinal match. Both matches are slated to get underway at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET.
Following Antanavicius' big win in singles, she returned to the court 45 minutes later to play alongside classmateÂ
Iris Berman in the Round of 16 matchup against Li/Wong out of Johns Hopkins. A back-and-forth opening set ultimately saw the Eagles win 7-5 and they continued the strong play into a 6-0 second set win.
In the doubles quarterfinals on Sunday, Antanavicius and Berman are set to go up against Middlebury's Farhat/Raman pairing at 2:00 PM PT / 5:00 PM ET.
